Welcome

Welcome to the web pages of the Parallel UI Rendering project, also known as PUIR (pronounced 'pure'). The goal of this project is to provide non-visual access to graphical user interfaces (GUIs) by means of rendering abstract user interface (AUI) descriptions. Whereas currently accessibility technologies focus largely on trying to interpret the graphical presentation in a non-visual way, PUIR aims to provide accessibility at a higher level, using the actual description of the user interface (UI) rather than the rendering.

These pages also provide information about side projects that were developed throughout the course of the design and development of PUIR, and as part of the underlying doctoral research. The source code for projects is available as open source software.

This project also represents the ongoing work towards a doctorate at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, under the supervision of Prof. dr. ir. Jan Engelen and Prof. dr. Gerhard Weber (TU Dresden).
